Crockett made this comment about MTG at a May 2024 House Oversight Committee hearing on contempt charges for AG Merrick Garland. It triggered a heated back-and-forth and momentarily shut down the hearing.

In a 2023 hearing Crockett argued that race-neutral policies like free college were insufficient because Black Americans start from a disadvantaged position — effectively arguing for race-based prioritization of benefits.

Crockett made this statement about Republican lawmakers during a public hearing in 2023, claiming their policy positions amounted to wanting to return Black Americans to slavery.

Crockett has repeatedly compared voter ID requirements to Jim Crow-era suppression. Texas, the state she represents, requires photo ID to purchase pseudoephedrine, board a plane, drive a car, open a bank account, and collect government benefits.

Called for defunding the police in 2020 — her Dallas district had some of Texas's highest crime rates

"We need to defund the police."

Crockett was a vocal defund-the-police advocate in 2020 before her election to Congress. The Dallas area she represents has consistently had among the highest violent crime rates in Texas.
