Schumer said in 2020 that expanding the Supreme Court would be wrong. After the Dobbs decision, he became a vocal advocate for adding justices to the court — the very court packing he had opposed.

Called for filibuster to be used to protect democracy — then called the filibuster racist when it blocked his agenda

"The filibuster is the minority's only protection."

Schumer invoked the filibuster regularly as a Senate minority leader and called it essential to democracy. Once Democrats held the Senate majority, he called the filibuster a relic of Jim Crow and pushed to eliminate it.

"I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won't know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."

Schumer made this threat in March 2020 in front of a crowd outside the Supreme Court while the justices were hearing a case. Chief Justice Roberts issued a rare public rebuke. Schumer later called the remarks 'poorly worded.'

Voted for the Iraq War in 2002 — then spent years calling it a mistake

"I voted for the war in Iraq resolution."

Schumer voted yes on the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force against Iraq. He later said it was a mistake and criticized others for their Iraq votes during multiple election cycles.
